With Republicans controlling the lower chamber, it appeared unlikely that Weiner would escape without a little digging by congressional investigators, but the calls from Pelosi and co. suggest that Democrats may not be willing to spend too much political capital defending the New York congressman.
One place that any ethics investigation may begin: Weiner’s reported offer of his public relations team to a porn star who he was emailing with. The tabloid website TMZ reported Tuesday that Weiner instructed the woman, Ginger Lee, to lie about their relationship and even offered the use of an adviser to help her deal with press inquiries."
