ABC News was the first to report that the U.S. Justice Department has been given the green light to prosecute and seek criminal charges against Edwards, the 2004 Democratic vice presidential nominee. ABC, NBC News and the Associated Press, citing unnamed sources close to the investigation, say it is possible that Edwards will seek a plea agreement."
