Obama plan gets chilly reception from K Street

If approved, government employees — including those who write regulatory rules — will no longer be allowed to attend Capitol Hill receptions that are hosted routinely by groups like the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers. The new rule would also ban government employees from attending annual trade shows, seminars and other legislative policy days unless they are speaking at the event.

The proposal has caught the ire of K-Streeters, particularly trade association execs, who say they are being unfairly targeted. The rule exempts “nonprofit professional associations, scientific organizations and learned societies.”
