Department of State launches campaign to educate Tennessee voters about new photo ID law

Nooga.com:
"In an announcement made last week, Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett said that information would be made available through the Department of State's website, as well as through local election commissions.

'I believe this new requirement is a common sense step that will increase public confidence in our elections,' Hargett said. 'Requiring photo IDs will decrease the chances that an eligible voter could be impersonated by someone else at the polls.'

While opponents of the law have said that it disenfranchises voters and have compared it to a poll tax, the Department of Safety has begun offering a new, free photo ID as an alternative to drivers licenses.

Other acceptable forms of identification include passports, photo IDs from federal or state governments, a U.S. military photo ID, or a gun permit card with a photo. "
