Bradley A. Smith's response to 'Big Oil's slick profit day? Plus, did GOP disown birthers enough?'

The Arena | POLITICO.COM:
On the policies I deal with regularly, campaign finance and political speech, it is clear that many if not a substantial majority of Americans have almost no knowledge about the current regulatory regime, similarly making them susceptible to demagogic appeals and unclear about the causes and effects of certain electoral observations. "Historically, many politicians of both parties not only do not try to snuff out such falsehoods or relieve such phobias, they try to use them for political advantage. For example, when the President uses the State of the Union address to misrepresent the Supreme Court’s decision in Citizens United v. FEC, fanning phobias about foreign involvement in U.S. elections for partisan gain, what should we think?

It would be nice if there were more regard for the truth all around, but I’m not holding my breath."
