A Plea for More Disclosure on Political Ads
NYTimes.com:
"The Media Access Project petition asks the F.C.C. to strengthen its rules to reflect what it calls “the commission’s long history of directing stations to pierce the veil” of where the funding for advertisements originates. The petition proposes a rule to require on-air identification of anyone who contributes 25 percent or more of the funding of an advertisement’s sponsor, and the written disclosure in a broadcast station’s files of all who contribute 10 percent or more.
For the petition to be put on the F.C.C.’s docket, a majority of commissioners have to vote to bring it up. Already, two of the F.C.C.’s five commissioners have supported the idea."
