Who's funding the Senate race? Tortuous process delays answers

A loophole in federal financial disclosure laws could delay the release of detailed, up-to-date information on who has most recently bankrolled both campaigns in the U.S. Senate race between Republican Gabriel Gomez and Democratic Rep. Ed Markey, D-5th. Unlike U.S. House and presidential candidates, who must file their campaign finance reports electronically, Senate contenders submit them the old-fashioned way – on paper.  This begins a convoluted process in which it can take weeks to get easy-to-access, searchable data on the Federal Election Commission’s (FEC) website about where campaigns are getting their cash and how they are spending it.
