"I would take exception with him on his characterization of his conservative credentials relative to mine or his electability, that’s something which time will tell," Romney said.
"We’ll get a good chance to see our positions on issues and electability, of course, is always something which changes over time as people get a closer look at folks. So we'll see how that works out. I don’t want to take exception with him; I'll just say, we'll see how that plays out over time and let people make their own judgement."
The "conservative credentials" line is interesting, and telegraphs clearly how Romney is planning on dealing with Gingrich — who has switched positions on some issues over the years — in the Iowa caucuses lead-up. Among the less-highlighted hits Romney made in his interview with Baier was an indirect shot at Gingrich on making an ad about climate change — a reference to the spot the former House speaker filmed with Nancy Pelosi that talked about global warming as a serious issue.
