"It's funny, though not really, how career politicians lay claim to congressional seats.
Take Rep. Tom McClintock, a Republican who has spent his entire adult life in politics, having first won an Assembly seat in the Southern California city of Thousand Oaks at age 26 in 1982.
McClintock, 55, is running in the newly redrawn Congressional District 4, which stretches 200 miles from Lincoln south to Fresno. In blogs and websites, it's called the 'McClintock' seat. Republicans so dominate the area that McClintock could hold that seat until he is beyond retirement age.
Except there is the matter of Rep. Dan Lungren, another Republican who similarly has spent much of his adult life in office, starting in Long Beach with a congressional seat in 1979, progressing to California attorney general and then back to Congress."
