Going to Hawaii isn’t the only thing that makes Newt Gingrich’s latest campaign swing stand out: He’ll also be attending several fundraisers held in supporters’ homes.
For most presidential candidates, the days on the trail are filled with receptions, lunches and dinners to ask for money. For Gingrich, showing up in person is a novelty. The candidate has focused on making his fundraising pitch over the phone, and multiple donors interviewed said the last big Gingrich fundraiser they’d even heard about was in April, before he formally launched his campaign.
