"The government will appeal a federal judge’s ruling nullifying a criminal charge based on a 1907 law that bans corporations from direct contributions to federal candidates. The appeal will go to the Fourth Circuit Court.
The Justice Department on Thursday notified a federal judge in Alexandria, Va., that it will appeal his ruling striking down, in a criminal case, the federal law that bans corporations from direct contributions to candidates for the presidency and Congress. U.S. District Judge James C. Cacheris limited his ruling to the specific case, but that would keep the government from going forward with that charge in the trial of two corporate executives."
