Federal Election Commission dismisses John Ensign complaint

POLITICO.com: "The Federal Election Commission has dismissed a complaint, alleging that Sen. John Ensign violated campaign-finance laws when his parents paid his former mistress's family nearly $100,000.

The FEC ruled that, based on their testimony, Ensign's parents were making a gift to Doug and Cynthia Hampton, friends and former staffers of the Nevada senator — rather than a severance payment that would require reporting as a campaign contribution and expense."
